Jewelry Care.
General Care.
To keep your jewelry looking fresh and prevent the build-up of tarnish, it is best to store pieces in individual plastic bags or acid-free paper to keep them free of dust and moisture.
Perfume, hairspray, body lotions contain alcohol and other chemicals, which can cause tarnish and discoloration. Be sure to apply any cosmetics prior to putting on your jewelry.
Avoid swimming or showering while wearing your jewelry as salt water and chlorine can damage or discolor precious metals.
Always be happy when wearing your jewelry. Bad moods can cause a negative chemical reaction with precious metals.
Cleaning.
To clean your silver and gold jewelry I recommend using a silver-polishing bath or cloth, though a silver-polishing cloth can change the texture of the metal over time.
If your jewelry has a textured or matte finish, use the following method:
Line a glass or ceramic bowl with aluminum foil and place your jewelry into the bowl.
Sprinkle 1 tsp of baking soda over your jewelry and pour enough boiling water into the bowl to submerge your piece.
After a few minutes, carefully remove your jewelry (hot!) and rinse with soapy water.
Repeat as often as is needed .
(Do not use this method to clean jewelry that has an intentional patina or oxidized surface).
